Skyber Lowen is tucked away in the peaceful hamlet of Kuggar on the eastern side of the stunning Lizard Peninsula – almost an island surrounded as it is by beautiful coastline to the west and east and the Helford River to the north. There are numerous coastal and country walks to be enjoyed with much of the coastline being in the ownership of the National Trust.

There is a Spar Shop and a Post Office in nearby Ruan Minor. The golden sands at Kennack are a three minute drive or a 15 minute walk from the property and dog-friendly all year at the eastern end. The picturesque villages of Cadgwith and Coverack are nearby with the amazing Kynance Cove just a short distance by car.

The barn itself is presented to the very highest of standards. Set out in reverse style, the first floor living space takes advantage of the high pitched roof with exposed beams. The modern kitchen is immaculate. Large windows create an open airy feel and there is a cosy wood burning stove to keep you warm during the winter months. French windows open onto a balcony with steps down to the garden. The bedrooms are all on the ground floor.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Entrance porch through to entrance hall. Master bedroom with fitted wardrobes, king size bed and en-suite shower room. One twin room with 2'6" beds and fitted wardrobes and French doors to patio. A double room with standard double bed (access from one side only), and storage space. Family bathroom with shower over the bath.
First Floor: Open plan kitchen / dining and sitting room with cosy wood burning stove. The top of the stairs has a fixed stair gate.
Exterior: Fully enclosed garden. Grassed area with external table, chairs & BBQ facilities. A children's swing and slide are available to use at your own risk.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via night storage heating and the wood burning stove. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with a range cooker, a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge / freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The large dining table comfortably seats six. The sitting room area has a three-seat and a two-seat sofa and easy chair, flatscreen digital TV, HDD Freeview tuner and recorder, DVD player and radio with CD with iPod dock. There is WiFi available at the property. There is an iron & ironing board. Outside there is an outside tap ideal for washing the sand away after a day on the beach and ample hanging area for wet suits and beach equipment under the wooden steps.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. There are off road parking facilities for up to 2 vehicles. Up to two small, well behaved dogs will be permitted at an additional cost of £25 each per week, although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed.

General Booking Information
Arrival / Departure is normally a Friday.
Short breaks are available during quieter periods.
£100 pre-authorised to your credit or debit card as a security deposit is required.
There is a good pub at Cadgwith Cove, plus more pubs in nearby Coverack and at the Lizard. There are large supermarkets in Helston and good shopping further afield in Falmouth and Truro.

Coverack has a traditional working harbour, a general store, Internet Cafe, friendly pub and several eating establishments. There are many other beautiful villages to discover around the Lizard such as St Keverne, Porthallow, Manaccan, Helford and Gweek, all with excellent pubs. There is a brewery at Coverack for beer lovers!

There are a number of good eating establishments dotted around the peninsula. "South" at Manaccan is a good find, plus "New Yard" at Trelowarren, "Kota" and "Amelie's" at Porthleven, not to mention the inevitable Cornish pasties - Leggy's in Ruan Minor or the famous Ann's Pasties at Lizard.

The Lizard is an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and has some spectacular coastal walks. It is England's most southerly point and the highlights include early Spring flowers, the Lizard lighthouse, swimming and surfing from sandy beaches, delightful fishing coves, sailing on the Helford river, heather covered moors in Autumn, open gardens and National Trust areas, pretty harbour lights at Christmas, friendly pubs and good, fresh, local food! There are loads of places to visit and highlights include Lizard Point, walks along the coastal path, a visit to Trelowarren Estate, the fascinating Goonhilly Earth Station, Flambards is great for the kids and you can step into Cornwall's mining heritage at the Poldark Mine. There are so many activities to choose from locally. You can take a boat trip across the beautiful Helford River and explore the gardens at Trebah. There are sea fishing trips from Porthleven. There is great diving on the Manacles and coasteering is available for the really adventurous. The Lizard is home to the Cornish Chough if you like a spot of bird-watching. The coastline has many pretty coves and beaches to discover, but you can find great surf at Porthleven or Loe Bar.

Berenice from Cambridge stayed at Skyber Lowen for 7 nights in September
We loved our stay at Skyber Lowen, the property was clean, tidy and very comfortable with a fresh bottle of milk on arrival so we could make tea. The shop at Ryan Minor and the local dairy are close by for food supplies. The only observation I have to make is that the garden, whilst enclosed, is wire so four legged guests will be able to see the sheep. This is worth noting for dog owners whose pets may not be used to sheep! This doesn't put us off booking again.

Victoria from Bristol stayed at Skyber Lowen for 7 nights in July
The house was well equipped and the upstairs living space was sunny and very comfortable. The garden is great for kids, but if your taking dogs be aware that there are sheep in the next door field. Surrounding landscape and beaches are fantastic. My only criticism would be - more pillows in the bedrooms - one each is a bit uncomfortable.

Fantastic barn conversion ideal for families and ideally placed in the Lizard with an amazing beach just 10 mins walk away. The barn we well equipped with everything needed and the open plan upside down design was perfect. Kennack sands is a great beach for families with an excellent surf school ran by Josh. The garden was great for the children to run around in and SW coast path 2 mins walk away. We would highly recommend this barn and hope to come back next year. Matt from Wiltshire

Emma from Marlborough stayed at Skyber Lowen for 5 nights in February
We absolutely loved our stay here. The accommodation is beautiful and light and airy. It was cold in the bedrooms the first night, presumably because it had not been inhabited immediately beforehand and we arrived late so could not do anything with the night storage heaters until the next day (it was February). Once we had set the night storage heaters up correctly - following the instructions in the house - it was perfectly warm and cosy though. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. Our only complaints, and they are minor ones, are that the big shag pile rug by the log burner was full of dog hair. I should imagine that it is quite hard to clean, but we were all covered in hairs after making the mistake of sprawling about on it on the first day. Apart from that (and under the cushions of the sofa - we don't make a habit of carrying out sofa inspections, but our youngest had lost board game pieces by pushing them into the sofa) the house was very clean. When we arrived there was just the smallest amount of loo roll in one of the loos and none in the other. We couldn't get to the shops until the morning so it was quite an inconvenience. It was a bit strange not to have left a roll or two for new arrivals, but perhaps it was just a one off oversight. Finally, the Internet was very very slow and more often than not, there was no connectivity at all. BUT, we are yet to find a holiday home in Cornwall where the Internet does work efficiently so it did not come as a surprise. Worth mentioning though in case someone desperately needs connectivity. The above points really are minor and we cannot recommend this place highly enough. The children loved it too. We will definitely be back.

This holiday cottage is in a quiet but beautiful location. It is ideal for dogs having a large enclosed garden and a 15 minute walk to a dog friendly beach. The location is ideal for beautiful coastal walks and visits to Kynance Cove, the Lizard and Cadgewith. It is very well equipped and spacious. This was our third visit which reflects how much we enjoy being there. We really feel we should explore and stay in a different part of Cornwall but the lure of this cottage in this location is very strong!

What a wonderful place - ideal for families and really well equipped for dogs with the entire garden enclosed and fenced for no escapees! Play frame in garden was also very well used by the 3 year old! The whole garden area is where we spent most of our time. Inside, the kitchen was equipped brilliantly and we had everything we needed whilst also really enjoying the barn all week.

It was beautiful and peaceful place to stay, such a lovely location in Cornwall on the Lizard couldn't of asked for better. Plenty of outdoor space if you have children or dogs as secure and they can play out without having to worry about them. Skyber Lowen is very well equipped and works well for families.

We had a great week in Skyber Lowen. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. The garden was great for our dog. All of the great parts of Cornwall were easily accessible from the cottage. We did some lovely walks from the cottage along the coastal path to Cadgwith and Kennack Sands. It was a very quiet relaxing week and we particularly enjoyed Coverack and Kynance Cove.

Alex from Dorchester stayed at Skyber Lowen for 7 nights in June
We're return visitors to this part of Cornwall, although hadn't been to this particular area of the Lizard Peninsula. This was a relatively late booking, and we were so fortunate to find somewhere as comfortable and to as high a standard as Skyber Lowen - thanks to Cornwall's Cottages for the suggestion! The property is well equipped with all you could possibly need, and its condition and cleanliness were faultless. We came with family friends who were truly impressed with the place, the proximity of the beach and the number, quality and friendliness of nearby places to visit and t which to eat/drink. Our labrrador dog was highly impressed too! The road through Kuggar has a level of traffic due to the location of Kennack Sands, and through traffic from Ruan Minor or the Lizard, but all manageable. All in all, a fantatstic, relaxing stay - thank you owners for allowing us to share your beautiful home

The location was lovely, so very peaceful and the cottage / barn was great for us all, two adults and two teenagers....plenty of room. The enclosed garden was great for the dog. No loo roll when we arrived though so a little tricky as it was late in the afternoon and there didn't seem to be a local grocery store! We did, however, find a Nisa on one of the local caravan parks, but that was on the last day. Overall a lovely place to stay and the local Cow Shed Bar was a nice & quirky!! Wonderful and would definitely return.

This "upside down" recently converted barn is in a peaceful location, around 15 minutes from Kennack Sands. It is beautifully and thoughtfully presented - and it is difficult to think how it could have been better. Plenty of space for our teenagers, both inside and out, but would have been just as perfect for them when they were younger (stair gates, safe garden etc). There is a patio and BBQ provided, and swing and slide for younger children. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival, the kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed. Kenack Sands is not that great a beach, but Cagwith Cove is a magical working fishing community just 35 mins walk away along the coast path. Kynance and Mullion nearby for bathing.

Just returned from a well deserved relaxing week at Skyber Lowen with my husband,Son & Fiancee, Mum, Sister and two very well behaved dogs . Beautiful property, spacious, light, and well equipt the property has a large private garden with a BBQ and outdoor furniture which we made the most of as we had beautiful weather. Located in an idilic position to discover the south of Cornwall we visited many quaint little ports and larger towns/locations including Lands End well worth a visit, St Ives,Falmouth, Penzance and St Michaels Mount.

Amazing cottage/barn. It was spotless and the best equipped holiday accommodation we have stayed at. The beaches nearby accommodated dogs, and we found Porthleven the best for restaurants, however, the cottage would have been a haven if the weather had been bad. Loved the break away and hope to book the cottage again in the future.

Guest from Andover stayed at Skyber Lowen for 7 nights in April
Skyber Lowen is a pleasant cottage and my wife and I shared the property with our son, our daughter-in-law and granddaughter aged two and a half. The sitting room and kitchen diner are open-planned and comfortable and well equipped. They are situated on the first floor which allows the views over the n earby fields to be enjoyed. The owners had supplied some basic but useful odds and ends to assist with settling in; tea and coffee, biscuits etc; Shopping is possible on the outskirts of Helston. There is a Sainsbury's superstore approx 15 minute drive away. We would recommend this property to others. It is very peaceful and Kennack Sands can be reached in 15 minutes by foot. Two points to bear in mind; there were several minor complaints in a notebook provided by the owners..........a repeated theme was that one of the ovens (left hand side) was not working and the explanation provided by the owner was not clear. We have a similar cooker range at home and future occupiers need to be advised that if the cooker is turned off at the main wall switch, the LH oven will not operate until the time is reset on the digital timer after switching on the cooker at the main switch. Secondly, we failed to get to grips with the hot water supply and this resulted in a hit and miss affair over hot water/baths. These really are only minor matters though and did not detract from our enjoyment.

We had such a lovely week at Skyber Lowen. Our 1st holiday with our new born son and the property made it a week to remember. Cant wait to book again we loved it that much. The property is very homely and we settled in easily. Very clean and has everything you could possible need, a real home from home. The only downside was that our week went far too quickly. Great location for walks along the coast and easy to get about from here. We will definitely be looking to stay here again. Thanks for a lovely week :)

A very pretty and really well-equipped cottage with easy access and plenty of parking. The secure, gated garden meant we did not having to worry about our dogs going anywhere they shouldn't. Lovely soft furnishings and stylish decor meant Skyber Lowen provided comfortable and homely accommodation. The local pub is certainly not for families which was a little disappointing because we had to drive to the nearest alternative. Check In/Out times are not favourable to guests (10am/4pm). If we wanted to visit in Late Autumn/Winter/Early Spring, we would be unpacking in the dark. And to be out by 10am seems a bit mean. It would be more generous to offer 11am/3pm checkin/checkout times.

The cottage is lovely with plenty of space. The garden is perfect for a dog, however, the swings and trampoline either needs repairing or removing. We would also have liked the outdoor furniture for the sunny October days!

We had a lovely week at Skyber Lowen last week despite the changeable weather. Skyberlowen is by far the best equipped self catering accommodation we have stayed in. Our grandson loved the garden and the nearby beaches. At first we did wonder if it was going to be too isolated however there are lots of attractions within easy driving distance for all ages. We were never bored. The accommodation was really clean and the welcome pack was very good. It was very useful to have Wifi as the mobile signals are not great! It was excellent value for money and all the information in the Barn was extremely useful. Definitely top marks for this property. The people I dealt with when booking with you were all very helpful in answering any questions I had and the directions given to the property were very useful especially the tip about reversing into the driveway!

Lovely warm and comfortable cottage. Nice to come back to after wet and windy walks around the coast.
Deb and Dave , Dec 2012
Lovely, comfortable holiday home. Kids loved the 'upside down' factor. Great beach/walks. Seal Sanctuary and Roskilly's excellent for kids.
The Robinson Family , Nov 2012
A relaxed week in a great and very spacious home from home. Still finding new walks, even after 20 years of visiting Cornwall. Will definitely return to Cornwall and hopefully the comfortable surroundings of Skyber Lowen.
The Munson Family , Nov 2012
A wonderful week in this beautifully styled holiday home. Everyone was catered for, including two teenagers and one dog. Lots of lovely walks interrupted by cafes, pubs and pasties. Then back home for evenings by the log burning stove. Who could ask for more?
The Dobsons , Oct 2012
A superb holiday home in a beautiful part of Cornwall. An experience to be repeated as soon as possible.

The Smiths, Oct 2012

Excellent. Well laid out, clean and dog friendly! Easy to get to, love the Sea King visits overhead. Kennack beach best for us, Witchball good food (Lizard), Roskilly big portions! Very chilled out!

One of the nicest cottages we've had. We were so lucky with the weather, we have been able to enjoy the garden and many of the area's beaches. A memorable holiday for us all.

An elegant cottage only a half a mile from one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in The Lizard and a convenient distance from all the most enchanting villages and towns this area can boast. Homely and spacious, highly recommended.

We had a lovely time. We liked going to the beach when it was sunny. We had a great time. We had 11 types of fish! We had brown crab, spider crab, lobster, hake, John Dory, skate, pollack, cod, sprats, turbot and lemon sole - it was amazing!!

Accommodation is lovely - a home from home in one of the most beautiful areas of Cornwall. We would recommend visiting Cadgwith & The Lizard Point, both outstandingly beautiful. Had a lovely holiday here.
