This really is a unique part of Cornwall, where wild orchards meet the waters edge. River views greet you from every room, and the comforting crackle and warmth from the wood burning stove make it magical and intimate escape all year round.

The double bedroom is the last word in casual luxury and enjoy peaceful river views from the bath. Both the cosy living and dining rooms make the most of the spectacular views and offer every convenience as you'd expect. The modern kitchen is fully equipped for self catering, and we can arrange for a hamper of delicious goodies to be waiting for you on arrival.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Separate living room and dining room with modern kitchen.
First Floor: Double zip & link 6ft bed (can be twin) with TV and iPod dock. Separate bathroom with roll-top bath with handheld shower, separate shower cubicle & WC.
Exterior: Large garden with mature apple trees. Portable BBQ provided in the spring and summer months.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via central heating and the cosy wood burning stove (logs supplied). The kitchen is fully equipped with a range of modern equipment including an electric oven & hob, fridge / freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher & espresso machine. The lounge has a flatscreen digital TV & DVD player, music system with CD, Radio and iPod docking station. WiFi available at the property & there is a telephone for local & incoming calls. There is a hairdryer, iron & ironing board.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, a basket of wood for the wood burner, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. There is enough parking space for 2 vehicles. Up to 2 dogs are allowed at an additional cost of £50 per dog / per week although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. A basket of logs is provided for the wood burner; thereafter available from the owner. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot and highchair.

Extras
A welcome pack is provided in the cottage for your arrival, but also available as an extra (£30) is a very special wicker hamper containing Tregothnan produce including Kea plum jam, selection of teas and Housekeeper's biscuits. Also available is a stunning private visit of the Tregothnan Gardens at £70 per person. This visit is very special as the gardens are rarely open to the general public. The tour lasts around 2 hours and concludes with a Tregothnan cream tea. It is a very special treat!

Kayak hire is provided for cottages in Coombe. You can pre-book your kayak (£162 per kayak per week, £65 per day for a 1 person kayak) at the same time as your booking. Exploring the River Fal by kayak is a simply magical experience whilst you are in Coombe. In addition, the Estate has a rowing boat available to hire (£186 per week, £65 per day, max 4 person) if you would prefer a slightly more sturdy vessel for your adventures! A mooring directly in front of the cottage is also available to hire (£25 per week) for boats up to 15ft. For larger boats up to 25ft, there are three floating moorings which can be hired on request and subject to availability. When taking to the water, guests are able to explore Coombe on the Cowlands Creek - a unique and special estuary off the River Fal.

The city of Truro is only about a 10 minute drive away and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 16 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. The yachting centres of Mylor, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach of the cottage. There is a watersports centre at nearby Loe Beach where you can learn to sail or windsurf. The nearby Roseland Area of Outstanding Beauty with its superb coastal walks is also a short drive away via the King Harry Ferry.

The Cathedral City of Truro is in the heart of Cornwall and offers a wealth of facilities for the visitor. Dominated by the stunning cathedral, it is one of the south west's most attractive cities. Lemon Quay plays host to many events throughout the year including the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival in the Autumn and the famous Truro Fatstock Show just before Christmas. Regular farmers markets occur every Wednesdays & Saturday and there are also arts & craft markets on Saturdays.

There is a wonderful range of shopping for the visitor including all the regular high street stores including Marks & Spencer, Tescos & Sainsburys, but also a wide range of more specialist stores. It really is worth a wander through the back streets and alleys to find some fabulous little boutiques.

Truro has a superb range of restaurants from Bustopher Jones & Mannings on Lemon Street to the always popular Pizza Express. There are lively bars, pubs & nightclubs including the superb Old Ale House, a busy Wetherspoons and the infamous L2 if you are so inclined! The Hall for Cornwall hosts everything from Shakespeare to rock concerts and the cinema on Lemon Street has all the latest releases.

After driving for 8 hours covering 410 miles we were delighted to find the perfect destination at our journeys end. Turn a Penny cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. The most perfect setting in a tranquil location. The cottage itself had everything needed for a home from home, large comfortable bed, well appointed kitchen, and a beautiful bathroom. The cosy lounge with wood burner was the perfect place for a relaxing evening after exploring the Cornish countryside. We had a wonderful week and hope to be back very soon.

My husband and I have just returned from this wonderful little cottage. It was everything we were hoping for: secluded feel but also conveniently close to Truro / fabulously well equipped / cosy/ welcoming. Unfortunately we had to cut our break short by a day but cannot fault the cottage or the service.

Highly recommended - equipped with everything you need and lots of things you didn't even know you heeded. The welcome basket could have been a little more generous - a crusty loaf from a local bakery would have gone down very well with the excellent Tregothnan tea! Will almost certainly visit again. Just a tad wet this time - record rainfall throughout UK - but wellies and umbrellas provided if you didn't bring you own. Definitely 10/10 if not 11/10!

A truly lovely cottage in a beautiful and peaceful setting. We would not hesitate to book again. Our dog loved it too! Gorgeous walks, scenery and everything we needed in the cottage including hot water bottles! Everything was very thoughtfully considered and it was one of the loveliest cottages and places we have stayed.

Well equipped cottage in a tranquil location but not far from the many interesting places to visit in this area . Loved the bathroom with bath overlooking the estuary , huge bed and the beautiful flowers , tea and biscuits from the owners estate on our arrival. The cottage sits by the estuary with fabulous views and lots of walks nearby. At night it is still and you can hear owls and a variety of seabirds. A lovely holiday.

Loved the cottage, loved the holiday. Could have stayed for 10 nights instead of 7. Would be good to have the option for a 10 night stay in future. I don't think the heated rail in bathroom was working (might be a fuse). Also would be nice to see the Kea Plum liqueur back on your supplies list. That aside - we've booked again for next July. Would have liked a 7 night stay over Christmas, but a) the cottage was booked and b) I don't think there was an option for a 7 or 10 night stay. Thanks for a lovely holiday. Joan May.

We enjoyed our stay at Turn a Penny. It is a cosy and lovely little cottage. We booked five days over the Christmas period. Lucy from cornwall cottages called on the second day and offered assistance. The whole cottage was very well equipped. All the information prior the our stay, e.g. Arrival Guide were informative. We would come back and really recommend Turn a Penny.

Carl from Stockton-on-tees stayed at Turn a Penny for 7 nights in October
Wow! We loved this little cottage, plenty of space for two in a great location. This was our 3rd stay in a wild escapes cottage and yet again we weren't disappointed. Always loads to see and do in and around Truro. Park and ride is 1 return on Saturdays and your ticket gives you a discount in the Arts Cafe, next to the museum in Truro, and the food is great. It's amazing that you can be in a cottage in the middle of nowhere and within 10 mins be in the centre of Truro. There are also lots of little villages within a short driving distance to enjoy (we loved St Agnes and KT's cafe, Cornish pasties at their best!). The only downside is the rather narrow, bumpy farm track to the cottage, but it is a 'wild escape' after all. The river estuary is tidal so provides a changing landscape throughout the holiday, something to bear in mind if you're planning on taking a boat or kayak. We were sad to find out that the nearest tea garden, Halwyns, is now closed permanently, so it means much longer walks to find the nearest cream teas! The cottage has everything you need to have a relaxing holiday, although if you do need wi-fi be aware that it is quite slow.

Our only criticism would be that it lacked a nearby pub within walking distance and the property would benefit from a gate across drive to deter other peoples dogs from entering onto the property. We would definitely come back again. The location was very tranquil and just what we needed to unwind. Lucy was also very helpful.

Guest from Wigan stayed at Turn a Penny for 7 nights in July
Had a great week at Turn a Penny, the standard of property and location was excellent. Lucy , Debbie and everyone we met were very friendly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities were all of the highest standard and it truly was like a home from home. A couple of points for improvement would be: 1. Cut down a few trees and give the cottage a true view of the water, it was so frustrating to be so close and not to have the view to make things complete. 2. Tidy up the entrance to the farm at the top as it is not the greatest first impression to be greeted with.... 3. The lane is pitted and overgrown in parts and if you are driving a nice car rather than a tractor down it could cause damage so could do with some work to make it less precarious. 4. The sitting room/ lounge is too crowded for such a small space, the cottage is only meant for two people so get rid of a chair... 5. Keep one cupboard near the fridge empty for non perishable foods as otherwise there is no storage. Otherwise cannot fault it...... Hope to be back in the future. Usual very high standards maintained. Suggestions: some smaller coffee cups would be welcome, air freshener for the bathroom and a wire cleaning brush for BBQ please. Although clean, a lot of the cutlery was water stained from drying in the dishwasher - an occasional manual wash and dry would add polish to what is already a great act.

What a super cottage and location. So peaceful and restful which was just what was needed this time. This is our second stay at Turn a Penny and hopefully we will return next year all being well. There is so much to see and within a very short distance. In the evenings we would walk to Coombe along the side of the estuary. We had glorious weather and relaxed in the garden on the recliners and just took in the ambience. To wake in the morning and sit up in bed see the sun glinting on the water and see if the tide was in or out. To be thoroughly recommended. The cottage is a delight everything one could want.

This is the second time we have stayed at Turn-A-Penny and the 6th time we?ve returned to one of the Tregothnan cottages at Coombe. It is very peaceful here, lots of lovely walks and near enough to get to anywhere in Cornwall. The cottage is wonderful and ideal for a couple especially if you have dogs as it is right on the water and secluded enough to be safe to let them roam, i.e. no roads and only one footpath (the only downside is that there isn?t an enclosed garden area). The facilities at the cottage are second to none; lovely big bathroom, well equipped kitchen, log burner, 6? bed, sun loungers-bench-brollie, outside hose, plenty of parking and a sunny aspect. We (especially the dogs) love it here and we?ll be back later in the year.

Extremely high standard of decoration, furnishings and fittings throughout in this newly renovated detached cottage. Very comfortable 6' bed, super bathroom with a large power shower as well as free standing Victorian style claw bath, lovely dining room and very cosy lounge - all first class with beautiful views to boot! My only slight criticism was the rough private access road down to the property which has developed a few pot holes badly in need of some hard core - you certainly don't need a 4x4 but it might be a problem if you have a vehicle with particularly low road clearance. My only suggestion would be to provide a simplified explanation of the heating control / programmer in place of the manufacturer's installation and operational instructions which were a tad complex and longwinded. Both minor points. Oh, and a pair of good oven gloves would be welcome addition in the kitchen rather than an oven cloth.

Turn a Penny Cottage is a little jewel in an idyllic setting. Just a few steps away from the creek-side, it is peaceful & tranquil and there are several footpaths to explore right outside the garden gate. The cottage has been re-furbished to a very high standard & is astonishingly well-equipped with every need thoughtfully catered for. You literally only need to bring the clothes you wear & buy the food you eat. The kitchen has drawers full of every kind of utensil you can think of and all the usual appliances with the exception of a tumble-drier. However there is an outside clothes line (pegs are provided) and an indoor clothes airer so the lack of a drier is not a problem. Heating is by very efficient electric radiators - we had to keep turning them right down or off! - and there is a little wood-burning stove in the lounge as well, which makes it gloriously cosy. For evenings in, there is a large collection of DVDs, books, board-games, TV & radio. The only (very personal) quibble that we had was that we found the pillows too 'fat' (we prefer thinner ones) and the duvet too thick and hot (again, we prefer a much thinner duvet). Next time - and there WILL be a next time - we will bring our own pillows and ask if it's possible to have a thinner duvet (there is a limit to how much we can cram into our Smart Car!). Would we recommend this cottage to others? Absolutely - providing they don't want it when we do!

The cottage itself was really beautiful. It was extremely well equipped with everything anybody could possibly need. Only one downside for us and that was that there was no enclosed area in the garden for the dogs. The cottage was in a very quiet spot with no traffic, but we were concerned that the dogs would wonder off and get lost.

Cottage is decorated very nicely with a lot of attention to detail which made the experience perfect. Very peaceful property, ideal for two people. Well furnished and comfortable, although alternative bedding would be useful in hot weather. I would suggest a small chair or stool is needed in the bathroom to put clothes/towels on when using the shower. Plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen, but it was all in use. There was no specific place to put non perishable food.
